ABOUT

I genuinely cannot remember a time when I didn’t love horses. Even though no one else in my family was involved in the horse industry, I felt like I was magnetized to them from the moment I was born. I started working in exchange for lessons at age 10, and was lucky enough to be able to bring my own horse home at age 12. I grew up riding western, and switched to dressage when I bought my first horse as an adult. I always knew I wanted to have a career working with horses, but just didn’t know what. It wasn’t until I was working with a very uniquely-shaped BLM Mustang that saddle fitting became a larger (and more complicated) part of the conversation surrounding horse care, and it was while I was searching for an answer for him that I attended a one-day saddle fitting class, and was able to find something that worked for him. Our partnership flourished, and that was my lightbulb moment - I’d found what I wanted to do with my life.
Driven by a desire to replicate that experience of partnership and education for others, I sought out and enrolled in a Saddle Fit and Flocking certification program from SaddleGuy in Camden SC. The course was taught by Mike Scott, a Master Saddler's Association (MSA)-certified saddle fitter, graduate of the Cumbria School of Saddlery in the UK, and who has more than 25 years of experience in the field. The course was a blaze of education that required 250 hours of study both in the field and in the classroom, study of the horse with a huge emphasis on anatomy and movement, hands-on saddle assembly and repair, flocking techniques, as well as interning with other equine professionals, and volunteer work with 501c3 and therapy organizations.
After working in North Carolina since 2021, I moved to Kentucky in April of 2023 and have never been happier. Every appointment has been with a rider motivated to support their horses, and is willing to work with me to charge forward with finding exactly what they need - whether that need is adjusting their current saddle, finding a product to help tweak the fit just so, or providing support and suggestions on finding a saddle that will be a better fit based on the horse’s conformation and physical needs, as well as the rider’s preferences and requirements. Sometimes it can take multiple saddles and multiple visits, but by carefully listening to what the horse is telling us, we can find what works best to support the partnership of horse and rider. My absolute favorite part about what I do is being able to see an immediate difference when we find a fitting solution, and the horse responds in the loudest way they can - by showing their ability to work more comfortably under saddle and being able to do what they were bred and trained to do.
